We’re excited to welcome Dr Annet to the Sundara team as our new Specialist WASH Fellow. As a medical doctor with a background in public health, she brings both hands-on experience and a deep understanding of how to strengthen health systems in underserved communities. Her commitment to women’s health, hygiene access, and community-led solutions makes her a valuable addition to our team.
We sat down with Annet to hear more about her journey, what motivates her, and what she’s looking forward to in this new role.

"Can you tell us a bit about your background and what inspired you to join Sundara?"
I am a Medical Doctor and Public Health Professional with a strong focus on maternal and child health, strengthening health systems, and improving care in underserved communities. Alongside my clinical work, I have always been drawn to efforts that prioritise equity and community-led change. Sundara’s commitment to supporting women as leaders in hygiene and health deeply resonates with me. It reflects my belief that lasting impact comes from placing women and communities at the centre of the work.
"What impact do you hope to make during your time with Sundara?"
I hope to support women who are leading community-based hygiene initiatives, guiding them through project implementation and helping them build sustainable solutions.
My aim is to reduce preventable illnesses caused by poor hygiene, while empowering women to become strong and confident leaders within their communities.
"What shaped your passion for community work and hygiene access?"
While working in a maternity ward in Rwanda, I treated many women with pre and postpartum infections that could have been avoided with basic hygiene. It was heartbreaking to see how much pain they went through simply because they lacked access to clean water, soap, and other essential materials. These experiences made it clear to me that basic hygiene is not a privilege but a fundamental human right. They continue to inspire my dedication to women’s health and my work with Sundara.
"If you could share one message with the communities Sundara serves, what would it be?"
Women hold incredible power to create change. With the right support, you can transform your own lives and uplift entire communities. Never underestimate your strength of the impact you can make.
"What do you enjoy doing outside of work?"
I love spending time with my husband, children, and friends, whether we are relaxing at home or out exploring.
I also enjoy dancing, going to the gym, travelling, shopping, and trying new restaurants and coffee shops.
